Volunteer Park to Space Needle

Since my daughter quite likes this shot taken from Seattle’s Volunteer Park one Saturday afternoon in July, I figure I can include it in this blog entry. I wonder how many other photos composed like this one have, however, been taken over the years?

One of the advantages and appeals of flickr of course is that I can go in and see all of the photos taken from this vantage point reasonably easily although I’m going to resist the temptation to post links onto this blog from such a search.

Early Evening in Charleston

We wandered around the streets of the city taking pictures of interesting buildings, etc.

And finally it was getting quite dark and I was using my Panasonic Lumix in the following shot.

S Carolina Over Memorial Day Weekend

We (my wife and I) drove down to the coast over the Memorial Day Weekend (nearing the end of May) and on the way stopped at this place and I took a few pictures both with the p&s and with my DSLR.

The following picture is fairly typical of the park with Cyprus Trees and other foliage re-establishing themselves after the devastation of Hurricane Hugo back in 1989.

Here's another photo to give the flavor of the place.

Caught in Flight

Last month after spending a few days in the Florida Keys we drove back North through the Florida Everglades. We only had a day to look around and so we drove along the Tamiami Trail which crosses the lower half of the state through the Everglades. Before heading onto that stretch of road however we visited the Everglades Park Service Visitor Center.

This tricolored heron (above - and which I'm so happy to have actually caught in flight) was just one of many birds that we saw at the Center, as well as alligators and other more discrete animals.
And here's another less glamourous bird of flight that I managed to grab a picture of in the same location. everglades_019

Cheeky Great White Heron for Breakfast

This one was hanging around at our breakfast digs last month at the Lorelei Restaurant in Islamorada on the Florida Keys. We saw him (her?) the first time we had breakfast there and of course I was wanting to get a nice picture of the animal. Since this one did not appear to be the least bit shy it was actually fairly easy to obtain a good photograph, at least when he was not directly facing the camera. When he was looking straight at me he was far to thin to register well as a photograph!

Posing Parrot

I always like getting pictures of birds. And what could be easier to photograph than a big colored parrot at Silver Springs in Florida. It's so used to people with cameras taking pictures of it.

Butterflies not quite free in conservatory

This was a fun place to go to while we were in Key West last month. Of course other people might have chosen to sun bath on the beach or headed to Sloppy Joes but we spent an hour or two looking at butterflies.
